How they used a raffle to spur fundraiser participation
They incorporated a raffle for their runners and raised $300+ per participant
Encouraging participation is the hardest part of any fundraiser.
Coach VerBeek of Jenison Girls Cross Country found an interesting strategy:
Running a raffle to reward his runners that raised the most.
The result?
They raised $314 per participant with just 18 runners, hitting their $6,000 goal!
Here’s how it worked:
Step 1: Define the Raffle’s Terms
Coach VerBeek had 8 gift cards donated by local restaurants to reward winners of the raffle.
Runners earned raffle entries by raising money for the team.
In this case, every $100 raised = one entry into the drawing.
For instance, runners raising $500 would have 5 raffle entries.
Step 2: Run Your Teamfi Fundraiser
Nothing crazy here.
After explaining the raffle incentive to his players, Coach ran his Teamfi fundraiser, same as anyone!
(If you’d like to see how to run a Teamfi fundraiser, book a 15 minute demo with me, or, watch my live demo below)
Step 3: Use Teamfi’s Roster View to Track Raffle Entries Earned
Throughout the course of his fundraiser, Coach VerBeek used Teamfi’s Roster View to track which runners had raised what.
Because it’s easily sortable, Coach could click once to see who had earned the most entries, and who had earned the fewest.
One note on this: as the fundraiser wore on, Coach made sure to communicate who had earned what raffle entries back to his team, in order to spur on additional participation.
P.S. This is identical to what this coach who raised $40K+ for his team did.
Step 4: Run Your Raffle
After wrapping the fundraiser, Coach used a free online tool like Wheel of Names to enter each player’s entries & run his raffles (in this case 8 different ones - one for each gift card).
And that’s it!
And that’s all it took.
But don’t take my word for it, let’s hear it from Coach:
I really think the incentives helped keep the girls stay motivated to not only get more contacts in, but also reach out to those who hadn't donated yet with a personal message. It was fun to see their competitiveness come out and I truly think they monitored how much they were raising more because it translated to more chances to win a gift card.
Pssstt… these aren’t the only fun incentive ideas we have
I write about the most creative incentives I see on this newsletter every week.
